Welcome to Erne SWIMRUN 2027.
This handbook contains the practical information you need to prepare for race day — from registration and equipment to the course, safety procedures and what to expect at Share Discovery Village.
Please read the handbook carefully before arriving. You are responsible for understanding the race requirements and following all instructions given by the race team and safety crew.
Erne SWIMRUN is about moving through the landscape, adapting to the conditions and sharing the experience with others.

BEFORE RACE DAY
REGISTRATION & CHECK-IN
Registration and check-in arrangements will be communicated to all participants before race day.
At registration, participants will collect their swim hat, race number bib and timing chip.
RACE BRIEFING
All participants must attend the mandatory race briefing.
The briefing will cover the course, safety procedures, water sections, race rules and any important race-day instructions.
Anyone who does not attend the briefing will not be allowed onto the course to compete.
MANDATORY EQUIPMENT
All participants must carry the equipment required by the race rules from start to finish.
You must have:
- Race number/bib and swim hat provided at registration
- Whistle
- Running shoes/trainers
- Soft/collapsible cup
- Waterproof packaged pressure bandage/field dressing
Wetsuits are mandatory if the water temperature is below 14°C.
Equipment checks may take place before the start. Participants who are not properly equipped will not be permitted to race.
OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT
Additional swimming equipment such as paddles or buoyancy aids may be used, provided it complies with the race requirements.
Flotation devices must not exceed 100 cm × 60 cm.
Please check your equipment before travelling to Share Discovery Village.

THE ROUTE
Erne SWIMRUN takes place across the landscape surrounding Lough Erne, combining open water, shoreline and off-road running into one continuous course.

FORMAT
The race consists of two laps, with each lap following the same sequence of running and swimming sections.

- Run 1 — 250 m
- Swim 1 — 150 m
- Run 2 — 1.6 km
- Swim 2 — 450 m
- Run 3 — 2.45 km
- Swim 3 — 450 m
- Run 4 — 400 m
LAP 2
- Run 1 — 250 m
- Swim 1 — 150 m
- Run 2 — 1.6 km
- Swim 2 — 450 m
- Run 3 — 2.45 km

RACE RULES

Participants are responsible for reading and understanding the rules before race day, including requirements relating to equipment, team racing, timing, litter, course conduct and eligibility.
SAFETY
WATER SAFETY
Only enter and exit the water where directed by race marshals.
If you are struggling in the water or need assistance, roll onto your back and raise your arm to attract the attention of the safety team.
Participants may rest by holding onto the front of a safety boat, provided they make no forward progress while resting.
NATURAL TERRAIN
Parts of the running route are off-road and may include rough or uneven ground, including lumps, bumps, holes and mud.
Natural debris may also be present when entering or exiting the water.
IF YOU NEED TO RETIRE
If you need to retire during the race, you must report to the nearest marshal. Do not leave the course without informing a marshal.
Participants may be stopped from continuing if race officials believe they are too fatigued or are in a condition that could endanger themselves or others.
HELPING OTHER PARTICIPANTS
Participants are encouraged to help fellow competitors who are in difficulty or have been injured.
If you see another participant in difficulty, alert the nearest marshal or member of the safety team.
CUT-OFF
The race has an 11:30 AM cut-off.
Participants who do not reach the required points within the permitted time may be stopped from continuing.
Your safety comes first. Follow the instructions of race marshals and the safety team at all times.
SOLO & TEAM RACING
SOLO
Solo participants complete the full course independently, managing their own pace and equipment throughout the race.
TEAM OF TWO
Teams consist of two participants.
Team members must stay together throughout the race and must not be more than:
- 100 metres apart on land
- 10 metres apart during swimming
Both team members must complete the course together.
TEAM CATEGORIES
Team categories are:
- Men
- Women
- Mixed
SOLO CATEGORIES
Solo categories are:
- Men
- Women
ELIGIBILITY
Solo participants must be 18 years or older and capable of completing the required swimming and running distances.
Team participants must race as a team of two, both participants must be 18 years or older, and both must be capable of completing the required swimming and running distances.
Please make sure the category selected during registration is correct.
RACE DAY
ARRIVAL
Please allow enough time to arrive at Share Discovery Village, park, collect your race materials and prepare for the briefing and start.
Final arrival, registration and briefing times will be confirmed to participants before race day.
REGISTRATION
At registration, you will receive your race materials, including your swim hat, race number/bib and timing chip.
BEFORE THE START
Make sure you have all mandatory equipment with you and are ready for the race briefing.
The race briefing is compulsory for all participants.
THE START
The race starts at 9:00 AM.
Follow the instructions of the race team and safety crew and enter the course only when directed.
DURING THE RACE
Follow the marked course and instructions from marshals.
Enter and exit the water only at designated points.
If you need assistance, attract the attention of the safety team immediately.
FINISH
Once you cross the finish line, follow the instructions of the race team and timing crew.
Your finish time will be recorded electronically.
E-TICKET
Your Amelia E-Ticket contains your event information and QR code. Please keep it available on your mobile device and present it at registration/check-in if requested.
RACE CUT-OFF: 11:30 AM
AFTER THE RACE
RESULTS
Official race results will be published on the Erne SWIMRUN website after the event.
FINISHERS
Every participant who completes the course will receive an Erne SWIMRUN finisher’s hat.
PHOTOGRAPHY
Race photography and images from the event may be published on the Erne SWIMRUN website and official social channels.
